I literally wrote this after another gig in Weaverville, NC where I occasionally played a bakery there in town for tips and day-old pastries.
In Appalachia from 2003-2006 I worked up from the Wed night gigs (Richie Ireson actually gave me $20 out of his till that first night at his bar since only a few stragglers had wandered in over a four hour period and he said he wanted to encourage me to come back.) to doing Saturday nights with the Yes Men for $400.
I was working a full time job on top of playing 3-4 nights a week and rehearsing 2, so life was busy.
