When I wrote this I considered it my first love song. Not that I hadn't written about love before of course, but I thought this one I was able to write without the normal tints of doubt or preparation for the inevitable "bad" thing that was sure to come.

By the time it was released on Pleasant Stay Hotel, the object of my affection had left me and the country, so I went back and added in the voices of the good and bad angels on the shoulder, ending up with "Straight [Ramblings Mix]". C'est la vie. On Emerge it's the original song, straight and true.
